The AUT University Medal has been awarded to Professor Marilyn Waring
The AUT University Medal has been awarded to Professor Marilyn Waring, one of New Zealand’s most respected and internationally renowned academics and personalities. It is the second time this pre-eminent award has been presented to a member of the AUT community who has made a sustained and outstanding contribution that reflects and enhances the academic development and reputation of the University.
In 2006 Marilyn came to AUT to take up a position as Professor of Public Policy. Since then her research has focused on governance, public policy, political economy, gender analysis and human rights. In 2010, Professor Waring received the AUT Vice Chancellor’s award for excellence in graduate research supervision and she is currently supervising 18 PhD students and six students in the Master of Philosophy.
Throughout a distinguished career Professor Waring has had her work published in numerous journals and books, contributed to collected works in economics and related disciplines, and is now cited by researchers, policy-makers and practicing economists throughout the world. She is also the winner of numerous honours and awards.
The announcement of Professor Waring as the recipient of the 2014 University Medal was met with delight, admiration and a standing ovation by her colleagues, friends and family.
